Today I was searching for something on Google and realized that it was suggesting matches from the very first letter entered. (A, for example, brought up Amazon.) It made me wonder if I would be able to guess what Google would suggest for each of the other letters, too.

Among many other charitable ventures, our company participates in an annual blood drive in which employees are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and donate a pint. Well, except me.

“What do you mean the Red Cross won’t accept blood from gay guys?” my co-worker said incredulously the first time I told her.

Review: “An Everlasting Meal”


I was excited to start reading An Everlasting Meal by Tamar Adler — it’s been compared to (and the author admits being inspired by) books by M.F.K. Fisher, whose The Art of Eating I reread every couple of years to stay inspired about cooking.

My first mistake was reading it on an airplane, nowhere near either grocery store or stove. As Adler described perfect, simple meals such as poached eggs drizzled with olive oil and topped with grated Parmesan, cracked black pepper and fresh herbs, I could feel myself growing hungrier and hungrier.
