30-Day Song Challenge, Day 13: A guilty pleasure

“In the past I’ve always counteracted guilt with other emotions —
like sugar, or drunk.” (“Better Off Ted,” how I miss you.)

In other words, I know no such thing as a “guilty pleasure,” because I unabashedly, unashamedly embrace everything from “Convoy” by C.W. McCall to “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps” by Doris Day to Britney’s latest, “Hold It Against Me.” I downloaded three tracks from an album titled “Space Sex.” (That’s the cover at right, and the music is French electronica, not “Battlestar Galactica” porn.)

But I do have a lot of songs that are hard to explain to other people. Like “Clocks” as performed by Twelve Girls Band. (“12 Young Beautiful Girls,” their website starts off, which is a little creepy, and goes on to include such borderline Engrish sentences as “She is such a popular artistic party as combines China’s traditional musical instruments with modalities of modern popular musical performances.”) And somehow, they decided to cover Coldplay’s “Clocks,” and I thought, “Sounds delicious.”

Somehow not as delicious: Watching them perform Simon & Garfunkel’s “El Condor Pasa,” which I found on Dailymotion. (Click here.)
