Fashionably challenged

Flush off the success of the recent Triple Pattern Thursday, my co-workers have been considering possible themes for upcoming similar challenges.

I mentioned that one of the art directors was keen on something involving red, white and blue in honor of Flag Day, but considering we didn’t really think about it until around 4 p.m. today, we decided it didn’t give people enough warning. Maybe we’ll bring it into play for the Friday before the July 4 holiday.

I, meanwhile, am busy formulating potential other themes as well. For example:

1. Executive Realness.

When you work with a creative crowd, you rarely see anyone in suits and ties. But the real fun would be for the women, since “executive realness” as interpreted through the drag world usually ends up something like this:

Tatianna, WERK.
A cell phone is a must for career gals on the go!

Also, I look forward to the follow-up categories also included in “Paris Is Burning,” including High Fashion Model (so I can scream over the intercom, “MO-DELL! THIN! STREAMLINE! TRIM!”), Opulence and Banji Girl. For propriety’s sake, I will refrain from suggesting Butch Queen First Time in Drags at a Ball, however.

2. Crazy cat lady.

Cardigan, slippers, sweatpants, etc. Please note that there is no such thing as “Take Your Cat to Work Day,” and therefore live felines will not be permitted.

3. Mall walker.

Extra points for headbands, fanny packs and extra-supportive Hush Puppies.

4. “Silk Stalkings.”

This is what they’re wearing to work. As police officers. Not undercover.

This show was entertaining for its sheer art-direction full-throttle lunacy. And the fact that its lead actress was named Mitzi Kapture. If you’re not familiar, please check out this recap. Or really, just this opening credits sequence, which has everything you need to know.

Or, you know, we could just go with red, white and blue sometime. Whatever makes you happy.
