A lot of the assignments I accept tend to be nutrition-related, which means I’m always learning new facts about foods. Before I started writing this one, I had no idea that strawberries have almost as much vitamin C as citrus fruits, for example, or that mushrooms had … well, any nutritional value at all.
As coincidence would have it, today pretty much every food highlighted in this feature is now in our refrigerator, freezer or cupboard. (The lone exception: the dark chocolate.) The elements of a healthier diet are creeping into my existence, slowly but surely. I added mushrooms and garlic to this morning’s omelet, in fact. Now, if only they would help boost immunity against allergy symptoms …
