The story behind creating my 2019 holiday card.
I started researching the possibility of printing an anaglyph 3D design on a letterpress printer several months ago. (And to be clear, by “researching,” I mean “asking the woman who owns my favorite neighborhood letterpress print studio to find out for me.”) The consensus from printing professionals was that it would difficult if not impossible, because the “deboss” (where the press stamps the paper) likely would negatively affect the crispness of the intended visual.
A few months ago, I came home and thought we’d been burgled.
Part of this article, which just appeared in Arrive magazine, was inspired by a spill I took over holiday break in Hawaii. I ended up with a sprained foot, on Christmas Eve, in an area 
where more flip-flop shops remain open on holidays than medical facilities do. The rest of my trip was spent pretty much supine, or hobbling around on crutches, which limited the number of beaches I could enjoy.

A piece about the health benefits of berries, including the newest berry on the block, acai.
I still haven’t tried anything açai. Maybe I’ll try to track down some frozen pulp at Whole Foods or Sprouts during today’s errands run, because like most fruits, apparently it’s way better for you in relatively whole form, instead of juice.
(Fret not, juicers: You’re still ahead of people who aren’t consuming any fruits or vegetables, but condensing the contents to a liquid appears to leave much of the nutritive benefits behind.)

With a headline like “Keep It Up,” the mind fairly reels about what such an article could be addressing. The editor even left a note as much (“Dirty!”) in my assignment letter.
